Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create my first card?

Click the TailStats icon in your menu bar, then go to Settings → Cards → Add Card. Choose your data source type and configure the connection details.

What is JSONPath and how do I use it?

JSONPath is a query language for extracting specific values from JSON responses. For example, $.data.users extracts the "users" value from a "data" object. See our JSONPath documentation for more details.

How do I install the CLI tool?

Run this command in your terminal: curl -fsSL https://www.tailstats.com/install | sh. This installs the tailstats command for pushing data from scripts.

Where are my credentials stored?

All credentials (API keys, OAuth tokens, passwords) are securely stored in the macOS Keychain. TailStats never stores sensitive data in plain text files.

Can I show values in the menu bar?

Yes! When configuring a card item, enable "Show in Menu Bar" to display that value next to the TailStats icon. You can show up to 5 items in the menu bar.

What happens when I'm offline?

TailStats caches your last successful data and displays it with a "stale" indicator. When connectivity returns, data refreshes automatically.
